Lenten Valentine’s Greetings

(This is an adaptation of a note I sent to my parish catechists for the weekend.)

May the Peace of Christ be with you.

Happy Lent!  Happy Valentine’s Day!

One involves love, another involves sacrifice.. can you tell which is which?  Or do both Lent and Valentines  involve both love and sacrifice?

Of course, you know they both do!  Lent leads us through the life of Christ which leads to his sacrificial death because “No greater love” is there than to lay one’s life down for another.   And, Valentine’s Day – – – well, if you have not figured out that love and sacrifice are so clearly intertwined…. Then invite me out for a beer or coffee and let’s talk!

But, of course, you know they both do!  You are a Youth Minister.  Your love of God, love of Church, and love for our young people has led to a sacrifice of time, preparation, and energy to share the faith.

Of course, you know it because, of course, you live it!  God bless you for your witness and generosity. From all your friends at Project YM, God bless you in all that you do.

D. Scott Miller

D. Scott Miller is the dean of Catholic Youth Ministry bloggers which is a polite way of either saying that he is just plain old or has been blogging for a long time (since 2004.)

Scott recently married the lovely Anne and together they have five adult young people and also grandparent three delightful kids (so, maybe he is just plain old!) Scott presently serves at Saint John the Evangelist in Columbia, MD as the director of youth and young adult ministry.

He has previously served on the parish, regional, diocesan, and national levels as well as having taught within a catholic high school. He is one of the founders of RebuildMyChurch and has returned to posting regularly (keeping regular is important to old guys) at ProjectYM.
