If I could only share one thing about the Church with others, it would be this:
We are still working it all out.
Yes, the church is the Mystical Body of Christ… but it is made up of messy, flawed, sometimes ignorant, and often silly human beings who are often making it all up as they go along.
Therefore, patience is the greatest gift we can bring to community. You’d think that after two centuries, we’d have worked out almost all the kinks – and, give ourselves credit, we most likely have! But, we are still a creation in progress. That is not to fall into the culture of relativism of which Pope-Emeritus Benedict XVI often spoke but it is to acknowledge that we ain’t done just yet.
As human beings,
our greatness lies
not so much in being able to remake the world
