1Thing

1thingThere is an old, Billy Crystal movie called City Slickers.  I was watching it in heavy rotation during life changes of marriage and children.  It is totally a guy movie where the characters discover self and the meaning of life during a “buddy film’ adventure of a cattle herd drive in the wild west.

The “discovery” part comes in this conversation between Crystal as Mitch and Jack Palance as cowboy Curley:

Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is?
[holds up one finger] This.
Mitch: Your finger?
Curly: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don’t mean s#|t.
Mitch: But, what is the "one thing?"
Curly: [smiles] That’s what *you* have to find out.

What’s the one thing?  Well, you are not going to find it on the blog; it is, of courase, what you have to find out… BUT….

If you could only share 1Thing about scripture or church, 1Thing to share with a young person, a parent, an adult, what would it be…?  This is what we will be exploring over the next few weeks.  If you have a category (and even a suggested one thing), please e-mail me.

D. Scott Miller

D. Scott Miller is the dean of Catholic Youth Ministry bloggers which is a polite way of either saying that he is just plain old or has been blogging for a long time (since 2004.)

Scott recently married the lovely Anne and together they have five adult young people and also grandparent three delightful kids (so, maybe he is just plain old!) Scott presently serves at Saint John the Evangelist in Columbia, MD as the director of youth and young adult ministry.

He has previously served on the parish, regional, diocesan, and national levels as well as having taught within a catholic high school. He is one of the founders of RebuildMyChurch and has returned to posting regularly (keeping regular is important to old guys) at ProjectYM.
