A Movie Present

The Academy Awards are presented at the end of this month. In what started out as one posting, has now become ten as we countdown to Oscar night with my own personal favorite movies. These are movies that I could watch over and over and over again… and have!

imagesCAWO51AO 1. White Christmas (1954) If you have been a reader of the blog over the years, especially in December, you should have seen this one coming. This movie is a family tradition form my family of origin to my present family and will likely be for generations to come. It is a beautiful Irving Berlin musical with two war buddies who become famous song-and-dance guys who are about to take a winter break from their road tour. Bob: Miss Haynes, if you’re ever under a falling building and someone offers to pick you up and carry you to safety, don’t think, don’t pause, don’t hesitate for a moment, just spit in his eye.  Betty: What did that mean?  Bob: It means we’re going to Vermont.  Songs that form the soundtrack of our holidays include Sister, Sister (I had three younger brothers), Snow, Count Your Blessings, and, of course, the title song.  I have seen the movie well over thirty times and STILL tear up at the end when the guys pay tribute to their old commanding general. What a fun, sweet, sentimental, lovely movie. (likewise enjoyed…. nahhhh, there’s nothing else like it!)

D. Scott Miller

D. Scott Miller is the dean of Catholic Youth Ministry bloggers which is a polite way of either saying that he is just plain old or has been blogging for a long time (since 2004.)

Scott recently married the lovely Anne and together they have five adult young people and also grandparent three delightful kids (so, maybe he is just plain old!) Scott presently serves at Saint John the Evangelist in Columbia, MD as the director of youth and young adult ministry.

He has previously served on the parish, regional, diocesan, and national levels as well as having taught within a catholic high school. He is one of the founders of RebuildMyChurch and has returned to posting regularly (keeping regular is important to old guys) at ProjectYM.
