A Movie That is Yar

The Academy Awards are presented at the end of this month. In what started out as one posting, has now become ten as we countdown to Oscar night with my own personal favorite movies. These are movies that I could watch over and over and over again… and have!

imagesCAK9W9CI_thumb3 5. The Philadelphia Story (1940) – OK, yea, so defiantly a chick movie, but I say not! Katherine Hepburn plays Tracy Lords whose spirit and energy are infectiously attractive. But, I say both Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart portray the template for good guys attempting to both make their way in a complicated world as well as negotiate peace within the battle of the sexes. It’s everything I like about an Aaron Sorkin dialogue: fast, breezy, and quick witted. Finally, it is a look back to class warfare as being presented around the time of the Depression. Mac: It can’t be anything like love, can it? Tracy: No, no, it can’t be. Mac: Would it be inconvenient? Tracy: Terribly. (likewise enjoyed Love Actually, Titanic, and my guiltiest pleasure of this whole list Flashdance)

>> 4. The Shawshank Redemption >>

D. Scott Miller

D. Scott Miller is the dean of Catholic Youth Ministry bloggers which is a polite way of either saying that he is just plain old or has been blogging for a long time (since 2004.)

Scott recently married the lovely Anne and together they have five adult young people and also grandparent three delightful kids (so, maybe he is just plain old!) Scott presently serves at Saint John the Evangelist in Columbia, MD as the director of youth and young adult ministry.

He has previously served on the parish, regional, diocesan, and national levels as well as having taught within a catholic high school. He is one of the founders of RebuildMyChurch and has returned to posting regularly (keeping regular is important to old guys) at ProjectYM.
