After a run down of many movies over the past month, here are my picks for the Oscars tonight:
Picture… The Artist This movie was just different and I think Hollywood would enjoy a self-referential award.
Actor In a Leading Role… Jean Dujardin (The Artist) While I think Brad Pitt won this in the final minutes of Moneyball this movie clinch it for him, I think the Oscar evening will be in full Artist fever by the time this award rolls around
Actress In a Leading Role… Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady) I saw Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo when I tripped into this movie because I mis-read movies listing and it was the only one playing. There were scenes in this movie that were so sketchy but she played a character that was beyond weird very convincingly. All that being said, I want to still see Streep’s performance.
Actor In a Supporting Role… Christopher Plummer (Beginners) Haven’t seen it, but Hollywood likes to recognize old-school, and you can’t get more old school than Captain Ludwig von Trapp. Maria and the kids will likely break out in song!
Actress In a Supporting Role… Octavia Spencer (The Help) Haven’t seen it, but Hollywood will likely want to recognize this movie and this might be their spot
Animated Feature Film… Rango You have to appreciate Westerns to get how cool this movie is… I’m betting Holley wood will get that
Directing…Alexandra Payne (The Descendants) Although Michel Hazanavicius of The Artist has been winning the awards, it has to be great directing to get such hard emotion out of two (actually three) kids and a George Clooney playing against character.
Best Original Song… Man or Muppet, Bret McKenzie Besides being a great song, it included the greatest surprise stunt-casting I’ve ever seen in a recent movie.
We will see what tonight brings… Start us up, Billy Crystal. Have fun storming the Kodak theater,
Was actually surprsied ny Streep (so ws she) and missed on directing… Aren’t you glad that you did not have me in your Oscar pool?
