Catholic Youth Ministry Salary Survey

Over the past few months, we surveyed hundreds of Catholic youth ministers in the United States to figure out how much Catholic youth ministers are getting paid these days.

Why? 1) Because there was no one else out there with a recent answer to that question; 2) To help you understand how your salary compares with other people doing similar jobs (helpful when you’re negotiating a salary at a new parish or trying to get a raise at your current church); and 3) To help people understand what most of us know anecdotally: good youth ministers are leaving ministry because they can’t support their families.

The big takeaways:

  • The national salary average (full-time) is $34,878.
  • 47% of youth ministers feel they are NOT fairly compensated for their work (if you’re one of them, find out how to ask for a raise or make extra money)
  • Men in ministry make 12% more than women.
