News from Around:

PENNABILI, SAN MARINO, ITA — Pope Benedict spoke to over four thousand youth Sunday at the conclusion of his one-day visit to the diocese. on a sun-kissed evening in the small cathedral square, the Pope drew a parallel with one particular story from the life of Jesus.

“A young man ran up and knelt down and asked him this question: ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’” The Pope suggested to the  young people present that these are exactly the sort of big questions that they should be asking. What’s more, they shouldn’t settle for “partial answers” but only those that bring the “true joy of living” as they are “built not on sand but on solid rock.”

News from ‘Round Here:

Having attended St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother (how’s that for a potential t-shirt) with my Mom, brother, and family on the vigil, Sunday was mostly a free day. Mom and I returned south to my apartment and then had dinner with the local daughters.

On Monday, we had three fresh new parish youth ministers in the office so i sat in for their “legal and liability” training. On Tuesday, we had a staff meeting and continued to plan (Thanks for the reminder: I still owe the team minutes!) the day concluded with elementary curriculum development .

On Wednesday, I was up at Msgr. O’Dwyer making breakfast (blueberry and banana pancakes, ‘natch!) for the high School Leadership Institute staff as they concluded their overnight retreat. We prepped our office newsletter for distribution for the next day and had another conference call regarding the yet-to-be-revealed project.

Thursday, I worked some more on performance appraisals with the staff, spent more time on elementary curriculum, discerned allotments for the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal funding, and then went to staff a meeting of a merged parish community in eastern Baltimore.

Friday and Saturday were engaged with personal tasks (laundry, ironing, groceries, and oil changes and engine flushing on the car) as well as a few for the office.  I celebrated the phone calls of the returned son and also caught Super 8, which I enjoyed.
