Delaware

DE So, I usually write these state posts a few weeks in advance.  Today’s was written last night in the middle of American Idol.  Earlier in the day, I got an e-mail from Wilmington’s director Patrick Donovan wondering if I had self-sabotaged the site earlier this week.  As if…  After all, we visited the state in 2010 and 2009, so here we return to the “First State” again

+ Wilmington, like many dioceses, has an annual appreciation gathering. In April, they gathered 350 youth, young adults, and adults to give thanks and recognition for the giftedness of dozens of youth ministers. Posted on the site were Patrick’s closing comments to the evening which included:

Tonight, we issue a clarion call to young people – and the rest of the parish community to remember that we are not called to serve God out of the promise we made to him but to the promise God made to us. We are called to mission
not maintenance. We serve young people but those young people belong to Someone Else. And it’s not just some of the young people, it’s all of them. The answer to the question, “How many young people are in youth ministry?” is
always, always, always….”All of them.”

Nice words to come into Memorial Day weekend and our start of summer programming…  (and Patrick, you were worried!)

D. Scott Miller

D. Scott Miller is the dean of Catholic Youth Ministry bloggers which is a polite way of either saying that he is just plain old or has been blogging for a long time (since 2004.)

Scott recently married the lovely Anne and together they have five adult young people and also grandparent three delightful kids (so, maybe he is just plain old!) Scott presently serves at Saint John the Evangelist in Columbia, MD as the director of youth and young adult ministry.

He has previously served on the parish, regional, diocesan, and national levels as well as having taught within a catholic high school. He is one of the founders of RebuildMyChurch and has returned to posting regularly (keeping regular is important to old guys) at ProjectYM.
