Holy Sheep

This was a senior thesis short film created by Justin Farris for Ringling College of Art & Design.

It is easy to look at a breaded shepherd as Jesus, but I’m not sure that is what is going on here.

Actually, let’s invite young people to consider themselves as sheep attempting to break into church here. In John 10, Jesus identifies Himself as the Good Shepherd who recognizes the value for the sheep to be within the Master’s voice.

Here are sheep trying to be proximate to the Word of God.  They will not accept being kept away from that and will go to all means to get closer and not be shut out. To paraphrase the Psamlist today, “Lord, this is the sheep )or the people) that longs to see your face.

What are  the strategies that today’s young people should be taking to do the same? And, on this Solemnity of All Saints, isn’t that what our call to holiness is all about?

Scott recently married the lovely Anne and together they have five adult young people and also grandparent three delightful kids (so, maybe he is just plain old!) Scott presently serves at Saint John the Evangelist in Columbia, MD as the director of youth and young adult ministry.

He has previously served on the parish, regional, diocesan, and national levels as well as having taught within a catholic high school. He is one of the founders of RebuildMyChurch and has returned to posting regularly (keeping regular is important to old guys) at ProjectYM.
