Evangelism Tip: Know Your Story.
People far from God don’t care what the Bible says. They don’t care what the Church teaches. All of that is irrelevant to them. If they’re having a conversation with you, then what they care about is you.
If they look at you and realize there’s something different about you, if there’s something they see in you that they want for themselves (joy, hope, love, peace, etc.), they’ll want to know your story.
If they see that your faith is important to you – they’ll want to know “Why?”. When they find out you go to church every Sunday – they’ll want to know “Why?”. If you tell them you love Jesus – they’ll want to know “Why?”.
They don’t want you to open up a Bible and quote Scripture to them, they want to know YOUR story. In YOUR words. From YOUR heart.
In doesn’t matter to them what Scripture says. It doesn’t matter to them what the Church teaches. It doesn’t matter to them what you’ve read. What matters to them is how this Jesus has transformed YOUR life.
What matters to them is YOUR STORY. So be ready to share that story with them. Work through it ahead of time. Know your story. More than that, know how to tell it in a way that is clear, truthful, and free from church lingo or jargon.
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”
1 Peter 3:15
