Low Energy Day

Today was one of those days that you just know arre going to be low energy. You ever get those days? Well, this was one for me. I could not help but reflect on why it turned out to be the day that it was. I was feeling more tired than usual. I was feeling like I am not being efficient with my time and energy. I was feeling like I have too much going on. Sound familiar? If it doesn’t sound familiar, then I applaud you. But I bet those of us in ministry have had a few days like the one I had today.

Here’s what I think it up with me today:

1. I haven’t taken enough time to be in prayer with God. I went to mass today, which was great. But I clearly need some more God time.

2. I have too many tasks to do in too short of time. And I feel that the tasks I am doing are not the most important tasks. That leads me to…

3. Have I set clear goals and priorities, not only for my ministry, but my  life? In a nutshell, I think the answer today is “no.” I need to be spending more time thinking about these things, but find I don’t have time because of #2. So, it is time to stop and re-focus.

4. My routines are out of sync. I’m a routine guy. When I’m in my routine, I work better, I feel better, and I get more accomplished that moves my God-given mission forward.

As tiring and low energy as today was for me, it’s days like this one that put a fire under me and motivates me to change. Why? Because I don’t like feeling like this. For my ministry, December can be a down month in terms of busyness and events. Sure, there is still plenty to do, but this is the perfect time to get focused again on what’s most important. And clearly, I am in need of that right now.
