Perseverance. Perseverance.

“By your perseverance you will secure your lives.” (Luke 21:19)

It’s not your strength that will save your life. Not your courage. Not your cunning. Not your intellect. Not even your ninja-skills. It’s your PERSEVERANCE that will save your life.

This weeks Gospel tells a seemingly gruesome tale of what is to come for those who believe in Christ: torture, destruction, and death. Jesus explains that our loved ones, our trusted friends will betray us and hand us over to our enemies because of Him. Because of our faith in Jesus Christ. Because of our hope in the power of His name.

He tells us this not to scare us, but to give us hope and encouragement. He tells us this so that we know no matter how bad it may look, if we persevere, if we remain steadfast in our faith, our true life, our everlasting life, cannot and will not be taken away from us. Our perseverance will “secure our life”.

Where are you facing struggles? Where are you facing persecution? Where are you feeling betrayed? Wherever that pain is, wherever that hardship, find strength and hope in Christ. Persevere in your faith and He will carry you through.
