Recognize

On Thursday, we are celebrating our annual recognition celebration.   After Mass, we will honor Eagle of the Cross recipients, Volunteers of the Year, and Archdiocesan Awards of For God and Youth as well as Medals of Honor.

In November, we will remember the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy. What will likely be forgotten was days before that fateful trip to Dallas, JFK spoke before the annual CYO convention… where he received the For God and Youth award

Kennedy reminded the CYO’ers that our service has both a local effect as well as “for hundreds of millions of people around the globe who today without hope look to the United States. Whatever we are able to do in this; whatever success we are able to make of ourselves; whatever leadership we’re able to get; whatever demonstration we can make that a free society can function and move ahead and provide a better life for its people… All those things that we do here have their affect all around the globe.”

We recognize award winners tonight not only to thank them but to be inspired by their stories.

D. Scott Miller

D. Scott Miller is the dean of Catholic Youth Ministry bloggers which is a polite way of either saying that he is just plain old or has been blogging for a long time (since 2004.)

Scott recently married the lovely Anne and together they have five adult young people and also grandparent three delightful kids (so, maybe he is just plain old!) Scott presently serves at Saint John the Evangelist in Columbia, MD as the director of youth and young adult ministry.

He has previously served on the parish, regional, diocesan, and national levels as well as having taught within a catholic high school. He is one of the founders of RebuildMyChurch and has returned to posting regularly (keeping regular is important to old guys) at ProjectYM.
