Reconsidering Joy

Joy, humor, and laughter are under-appreciated values in the spiritual life and are needed, not only in our personal spiritual lives, but in the life of the Catholic Church.

Fr. Jim Martin offered the Ignatian Lecture locally recently and I was out in anticipation of his keynote next March for the MidAtlantic Congress

The video was shot by the Catholic Review’s George Matysek, Jr…. If you want to talk joy, you shoulda seen George and his colleague Matt Palmer hanging out / interviewing Martin afterwards.  It wasn’t the celebrity factor, it was the collegiality of “fellow Catholic journalists” (Martin’s generous words) with the associate editor of America magazine that they guys were geekin’ out over… Their joy was palpable!

Anyone truly in touch with God is joyful!

Seek joy in your life and ministry.

D. Scott Miller

D. Scott Miller is the dean of Catholic Youth Ministry bloggers which is a polite way of either saying that he is just plain old or has been blogging for a long time (since 2004.)

Scott recently married the lovely Anne and together they have five adult young people and also grandparent three delightful kids (so, maybe he is just plain old!) Scott presently serves at Saint John the Evangelist in Columbia, MD as the director of youth and young adult ministry.

He has previously served on the parish, regional, diocesan, and national levels as well as having taught within a catholic high school. He is one of the founders of RebuildMyChurch and has returned to posting regularly (keeping regular is important to old guys) at ProjectYM.
