As forecasted earlier this month, I’m taking a break over the holidays… but last week, I was reminded that there really is no break in our profession.
Last week, having worked a full week with full days and three nights out, I was long ago scheduled for a Friday off. It was even more needed after having achieved over 40 hours getting to it. I had an early morning of shopping, reading and writing. Lunch and afternoon were spent with the granddaughter as her mom was getting a haircut and then we all had a delightful lunch. The afternoon was quiet as well, until I got a phone call about the Newtown shootings (I was aware of it earlier, but hadn’t considered the national impact… which I might have considered earlier had I been in the office.)
The got the ball rolling with an e-mail first to my local contacts (I always try to serve local first) before posting.
It reminded me that our ministry does not always serve within the time constraints of our work / family / life / blog calendars. But, it is important to be intentional to switch off when we can so that we are healthy and ready to switch on as needed. My work vacation actually started after Tuesday afternoon. The rest of the blog calendar works its way until the 23rd (all of which was set over Thanksgiving break) and we will be off (God willing) until the standard end of month report on the 31st.
