The Kids are Alright

It must be Church of Nativity week here on the blog.  First, we lift a post from the pastor, and now…

05well_span-blog480 Christopher Wesley called my attention to Tara Parker-Pope’s  New York Times Magazine article which suggests that The Kids Are More Than All Right  and that the current generation is, well, a bit boring when it comes to bad behavior.

> Teenagers are smoking far less pot than their parents did at the same age.
> Adolescent use of alcohol, tobacco and most illegal drugs is also far lower than it was 30 years ago.
> Today’s teenagers are also far less likely to have sex or get pregnant compared with their parent’s generation

While health officials say drug use and teenage pregnancy rates are higher here in the States than most other developed nations, the trends are improving.  Good News about today’s teens, eh?

D. Scott Miller

D. Scott Miller is the dean of Catholic Youth Ministry bloggers which is a polite way of either saying that he is just plain old or has been blogging for a long time (since 2004.)

Scott recently married the lovely Anne and together they have five adult young people and also grandparent three delightful kids (so, maybe he is just plain old!) Scott presently serves at Saint John the Evangelist in Columbia, MD as the director of youth and young adult ministry.

He has previously served on the parish, regional, diocesan, and national levels as well as having taught within a catholic high school. He is one of the founders of RebuildMyChurch and has returned to posting regularly (keeping regular is important to old guys) at ProjectYM.
