Where Are the Adults?

Ok, so we are talking more adults involved in youth ministry….  and there may just be a case to be made here… posting portions of Celebrate Me Home may be over, but making the argument continues on.

I should be reciving my copy of God Is Alive and Well any day now. It sugguests potential changes in religion in the U.S going forward. Although it is always difficult to 51BUEzcU8lL__SS500_predict the future, certain trends in the age composition of the American public suggest that religion may become increasingly important in the years to come. This is mostly the result of the fact that the number of Americans who are 65 and older will essentially double over the next 20 years, dramatically increasing the number of older Americans. As long as these aging baby boomers become more religious as they age — following the path of their elders — the average religiousness in the population will go up.

The book suggests that it is highly likely that religion will continue to be an important component of American life in the years ahead, even as the ways in which religiousness is expressed and the ways in which people worship may undergo significant change…

Now, if opnly we can figure out how to best recuit and incorporate more elders into our programs.

Scott recently married the lovely Anne and together they have five adult young people and also grandparent three delightful kids (so, maybe he is just plain old!) Scott presently serves at Saint John the Evangelist in Columbia, MD as the director of youth and young adult ministry.

He has previously served on the parish, regional, diocesan, and national levels as well as having taught within a catholic high school. He is one of the founders of RebuildMyChurch and has returned to posting regularly (keeping regular is important to old guys) at ProjectYM.
