Without You

Here’s a YouTube video to use with young people.

Recently, on the playlist of my morning walks, this song has been in heavy rotation.

And, I have been reminded that love songs can often be relistened in the manner of a prayer. I think that this one works… or, at least, it has for me.

The video reimages the world uniting together, but the actual lyrics can evoke the sentiments of Psalm 16: 7-8: I bless the LORD who counsels me; even at night my heart exhorts me. I keep the LORD always before me; with him at my right hand, I shall never be shaken.

The lyrics cry out the same notes: I can’t win, I can’t reign. I will never win this game without you, without you. I am lost, I am vain. I will never be the same without you, without you.
I won’t run, I won’t fly. I will never make it by without you, without you. I can’t rest, I can’t fight. All I need is you.

D. Scott Miller

D. Scott Miller is the dean of Catholic Youth Ministry bloggers which is a polite way of either saying that he is just plain old or has been blogging for a long time (since 2004.)

Scott recently married the lovely Anne and together they have five adult young people and also grandparent three delightful kids (so, maybe he is just plain old!) Scott presently serves at Saint John the Evangelist in Columbia, MD as the director of youth and young adult ministry.

He has previously served on the parish, regional, diocesan, and national levels as well as having taught within a catholic high school. He is one of the founders of RebuildMyChurch and has returned to posting regularly (keeping regular is important to old guys) at ProjectYM.
